The Truth of What Unfolds

The Truth of What Unfolds

Written by Curation Director Tatiana Jaramillo

“The Truth of What Unfolds” brings together six contemporary artists – four Colombian, two British – whose practices explore colours as emotion, and materials as poetic force. As the title suggests, the exhibition invites us to take an introspective gaze. The artworks are created with honesty and intent which help both artist and viewer better understand how we feel, why, and what it means to delve beneath the surface to uncover raw truths hidden in plain sight.

Angelica Chavarro centres the space with vibrant chromatic energy, which brings us a shared sense of infinity. She uses repetitive writing as a meditative exercise in her art, where the words are a materialization of her thoughts at the time of creation. The varied layers of overlapping textiles and threads are Angelica’s invitation to see into the complicated physical and mental healing journey she has been on – making it our journey, too.

Jeronimo Villa and María Paula Suárez extend this search for truth through their shifting abstractions. Their artworks explore themes of inner peace, transcendence, love, death and evolution. Jeronimo has a great focus on how eastern dogmas can be expressed in visual form. He resurrects found objects and uses raw materials like sandpaper and wood to create raw art full of strength and beauty. Maria Paula admits to being obsessed with the idea of love. Her ethereal works are driven by experimentation with botanical objects, coloured pencils and embroidery on paper. In her pieces, plants operate as quiet emotional agents, that unfold our own blooming process of becoming.

Demi Overton introduces a quieter, landscape‑driven sensibility, offering moments of stillness and reflection through her contoured, sculptural works on paper. Demi’s aerial maps, shaped through pinpricking, painting and sewing, invites us to slow down and embark on a meditative journey aligned with nature’s cadence and rhythm.

Through figurative painting, Louise Bird’s work compels us to engage with the human experience and the events that shape our deepest emotions. Her paintings of hands and human figures – often her own – embody a power capable of expressing the most raw, unspoken truths. Danilo Rojas concludes the unfolding thread of our collection with his paintings rooted in pure meditation. Danilo uses every long, purposeful brushstroke as a way to weave us through spiritual dimensions, opening a path into the depths of our own souls. Each of his paintings end – and begin – with a dot. The cycle of life continues.

Viewed as a whole, the collection reflects multiple facets of ourselves, where colour, material, and image breathe in unison. Moving through the works invites viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves through the expressive power of contemporary art.

The full collection will be on view at AAF Battersea, London, 4 – 8 March 2026. Tickets available through Patricia Christie Galleries. We invite you to send an email to [email protected] for access passes to the fair.
