Danilo Rojas

Danilo Rojas

For Danilo Rojas, painting begins in silence. His practice grows from meditation and breathing, unfolding like a ritual that connects body, mind, and nature. From this state, his canvases emerge as poetic explorations of life’s essential forces – water, growth, and renewal.

Rojas studied architecture at the University of Los Andes in Bogotá, later completing a master’s degree in History & Critique at UPC in Barcelona. He also studied antique Chinese calligraphy and philosophy, which continue to shape his contemplative style. In 1997, after moving to Barcelona, he fully committed to painting as his life’s work.

Working with acrylic on canvas, Rojas creates abstract and organic forms that reflect both calm and vitality. Each brushstroke is charged with presence, and each painting holds a meditative rhythm. A distinctive dot appears in all of his works. This quiet mark evokes the vast system of life we belong to and reminds us of our own small yet vital place within it. Moreover, it offers viewers a chance to pause, remember what is essential, and reconnect with their inner glow.

His career has taken him across the world, with exhibitions in Barcelona, Basel, Yokohama, Seoul, Venice, Washington, Paris, Toronto, Miami, Bogotá, and Guatemala. Today, his paintings form part of private collections in Spain, the UK, the USA, and Colombia.

Through his art, Rojas offers more than images. Instead, he creates spaces of reflection – places where meditation, nature, and memory converge.

Artist’s Statement

”I see a world hungry for love, with thirst for life… thirst for eternity. From within my work I explore the natural, emotional and spiritual experience of art. Painting is my instrument, I believe in the great power of it to activate the memory of the soul, to get to the heart, to approach the unnameable and, essentially, it’s capacity to make us live again our natural state of inner glow. My painting comes from meditation and breathing; it’s home is silence. And it is from that poetic state, that my work explores the essential elements of nature and its forces and, in particular, that centrifuge from where life is born and sprouts. A dot appears in the artworks. Its presence evokes the vastness of this life system we are part of and how small we are when we forget about it.

In front of each painting is seeded the possibility that what makes us remember the essential sprouts … what we really are. I understand I must give what I need most.’ – Danilo Rojas
